Simple loft from Hamburg

In our Current Curiosity column we present the special home of a Hamburg couple. Florian and Louise are real urban nomads, with their own business they are working to involve Hamburg’s abandoned places in the city’s cycle.

The Kunth couple looks up with pleasure second hand furniture selling businesses, in the living room the “lemon” comes also from such a store. On the dining area can be seen the Eames plastic edged chairs, they balance with their seriousness the aforementioned yellow object.

In line with the dining chairs we can see on one side of the huge living room a dark, tarnished armchair too. In front of it is placed the contrast and robust piano, which highlights the color difference and style oneness. Thus in the main space the cleverly placed, different style objects emit a single, industrial atmosphere. This effect is intensified by the bare left, big floor areas, the beams and the huge windows.

The center’s of the working corner, the customdesigned table, is a piece of the “Critical Objects” called series. This movement is balancing on the borderline between the usable fixtures and sculptural work of art.

Where on the floor, where hanged, or sorted on a board, we can see abstract images, prints and posters, to all which the couple is connected through a personal attachment. This decoration strengthens the feeling of the home’s rawness.

The contrast of black and white goes through the furnishing of the whole apartment, this way lends elegancy to the places.

Although this home is rather puritan styled, here predominates the less is more principle. With its few, but cosily assorted pieces, represents a clearout, industrial design.
