Industrial pearl in an Amsterdam garage

Invalid Displayed Gallery

A multi-storey, many roomed loft apartment/home was built in a ruined, street-facing garage. However, the unfavorable features have been easily transformed by the new owners into an intimate family home.

Entering into the front door immediately two dining rooms are before our eyes. One is in one of the, still sunny space, in turn the other is with a few steps down. The iron legged, chunky table lightened with enamel lamps is surrounded by metal chairs. To the industrial impact are reinforcing the worn walls and naked brick surfaces.

In the same space is the kitchen, where the pale, gray color dominates. The matt furniture, rigid marble panel and massive pendant lamps ensure a really masculine atmosphere. The cold, rustic tiles on the floor and green solution spell more cheerful spots into the monochrome corner.

Walking through a longer corridor, we can enjoy the retro wardrobes from the family’s art collection. Giant tortoise, family photos, but the strong pictures that appear all over the house, also here have their place.

Directly from the living room we can step out in the garden. In the surprisingly sunny room, black leather armchairs and unified, metal-framed wooden furniture form the tarnished interior. In the middle emerges a sculpturally beautiful, off-white stove. A special work of art that recalls the shape of the medieval altars and a yellow curtain, which harmonizes with this, light between the darker shades.

The study hides in a separated snug protected with green doors. Beside classical, coffee brown armchair and antique desk a military uniform and vintage boxes decorate.

Among the bedrooms on the upper storey the children’s room is light and airy, yet elegant. Next to the light textiles, toys and yellow shelves the stricter school benches as well can fit well.

To the other bedroom leads an idyllic staircase.

Beside the small sleeping space only a green wardrobe could fit.

In the bathroom again brilliantly appears the rough charm of the industrial past. Appear the un-whitewashed wall, metal tubes, tiles and dark furniture delight our eyes.

Into the basically dark and demarcated building had been developed direct access to the garden and a light interior, while the typical industrial features have been kept and were highlighted during the renovation as well.
