Antique loft in a former armory

Invalid Displayed Gallery

We present another wonderful loft from Budapest. The designers of the a+z Design Studio this time converted into their own home this building originating from 1915, which once functioned as an armory.

In the implausibly big spaces the old structural components and the special materials play the main role. The original iron doors today as well are visible, while the aforetime used beams today greet back as a bookshelf. Beside the huge, iron framed doors the pastel colored walls and the concrete floors radiate the brightness. On the black-and-white patterned carpet a light, pink, retro and a more oriental styled armchair straddle the leather, robust sofa. The tarnished pieces are completed by a joyful chandelier and an easy sorting cabinet.

In front of the terrace, beside the design, black shelves, adorns an armchair made from recycled materials.

On the other side of the spacious living room we can see a bit futuristic dining room. The metal, modern chandelier and the contemporary fireplace lay the foundation of the futuristic atmosphere. In front of these more accented accessories we can see simpler, iron framed dining table, and school, respectively plastic chairs. The antique drawing table represents a hint of vintage style.

The kitchen clear-out, simple furniture also highlights the specialty of the dining room. Beside the off-white built-in kitchen furniture some metal framed barstools received their place at the counter. From here, through the glass windows we can see the flight of stairs.

The rest area of the steps leading upstairs is encrusted with cheerful, yellow mosaics and draws the attention to itself with a retro poster.

The upstairs placed bedroom private and personal nature is emphasized also by the boudoir atmosphere. In front of the lavender-colored wallpaper received place a metal pan, chest of drawers that was shaped into a dressing table. Beside the charming double bed there is an industrial styled metal cabinet, which metallic shine is emphasized by a modern chandelier.

The coral-colored bathroom’s decorated chandelier suggests an oriental, luxurious elegance. The Mediterranean, in color harmonizing tile is well highlighted by the simplicity of the footed bathtub.

The old, factory environment was refurbished in a stylish way, leaving in many places the worn elements. The industrial frame is complemented by retro and vintage furniture, which emphasize the building’s tarnished nature, but the light spaces yet radiate a light, bohemian atmosphere.
