Industrial styled apartment from Africa

In our Weekly Curiosities column we present a a Cape Town home, in which  the retro atmosphere of the ’70s and the industrial style are mixed, and is complemented with a dash of India. The structure of the house is special, sithence the architect worked up double ceilinged spaces and “offset” storey as well.

The kitchen and the living room is in one space, on the ground floor. White painted brick walls, huge glass windows and dark linoleum floor is framing the furnishing. The classic and massive beige sofa is a vintage piece, which is well complemented by lighter pieces, such as the small table transformed from a red barrel and the patterned textiles. Behind it, the dining room is dominated by a tarnished wooden table, which is complemented with simple, white chairs, in turn below them a worn carpet can be seen. As a kitchen storage functions an old display case assembled from smaller pieces. The American kitchen is separated from the dining area with a bar counter covered with concrete sheet, above which industrial lamps are hanging.

From the living room a cast-iron spiral staircase leads up to the mezzanine level, where the office is located. On the other side concrete steps lead up in a relaxing, resting room. On the wall of the flight there are many, Far East works of art and Indian lamps are hanging.

In the attic received place the bedrooms and the bathroom. In the children’s room can be seen a desktop  originating from the last century, completed with a funny carpet. In the bedrooms brightly painted walls  and metal-framed windows ensure the sunshiny feeling. In the other bedroom between the glass windows worn wooden doors were installed. In front of the white double bed a vintage, green vanity table and a red, oriental styled chair decorate the corner. The bedside tables placed beside the bed in turn represent the industrial line. The bathroom that opens from the bedroom is clear-out and elegant, as well as a wonderful view opens from here.

Overall, the bigger vintage and retro furniture are well complemented by the oriental effected ormaments and industrial pieces. The three kinds of styles result a charming and unique general impression.
