Ruins of a gothic church in the living room

In our Current Curiosities article you can read more about a church that was rebuilt from its ruined, leaky-roofed condition and, which today functions as a family house. The spotting of the abandoned, Gothic church’s roof, as well as the insulation of doors and windows were only the initial steps of the restructurings. The internal and external structure was not only renovated, but reanimated as well. Beside the revitalization also was a goal to preserve the beautiful architecture.

The oblong space of the former nave houses on the ground floor the American kitchen, dining room and living room, in turn upwards the bedrooms can be seen. The dining room’s lancet windows and stunning beams are complemented by white walls, while the wall behind the former altar is decorated by an eye catching, black-and-white patterned wallpaper. The kitchen’s built-in, simple wooden furniture is being made exciting by a black, retro Smer refrigerator and metal structured, leather covered bar stools. The dining room’s massive wood and metal ensemble reflects the medieval simplicity.

In the living room as well appears the historical charm, but at the same time we can see here colorful, modern furniture. The retro armchairs, the Lichtenstein picture and the tripod floor lamp conjure pop-art atmosphere among the ancient walls, while the small table that “was born” from a trolley cart and the vintage stove give an industrial shade to the interior. The desk that is under the flight of stairs and the Eames chair are the imaginative use of the space.

On the floor appears a clear-out, Scandinavian elegance. The above spaces are dominated by the white colored walls, accessories and furniture. Brown shaded wooden floors and slats, as well as dark colored antiquities represent the contrast.

From the outside cold seemingly interior of the stone made church hides a bright, elegant and cozy home. During the modifications and furnishings it has been managed to keep the traditional structure, at the same time was born a contemporary, stylish interior.
